really? wow. that's not my experience. i grew up in pretty lower middle class and had many hispanic and black friends growing up--not the lily-white suburbs of chicago. the n-word is definitely a no-no if you're not black.

i would never call one of my gay friends or family members a "fag". that's not a nice word how it's used.

Well, then your ethnic and whatever types of friends are not relaxed enough. My friends (various types) and I are very relaxed with each other. Words like those are not an offense. (Including calling each other by sexual parts, low intellect innuendos, insult each other by "your mama jokes".... etc.) After all, we are amongst friends. (I.E. Cool-Tight)

If you really do have black friends who are perfectly happy for you to call them a 'nigger' then that is their choice. I can't imagine that many black people from outside your circle of friends would feel comfortable with it, but what you and your friends say to each other outside the hearing of others really is between you and your friends alone.

I'm sure you'd have the sense not to use terms like that in front of anyone else though, as they would probably take a very different view.

How did this move off into the use of the "N-Word."

Personally I like the taboos that PC language has created in some areas. I generally speak very PC both in subject and word selection, but it's nice to know that when I flip switches to be offensive to somebody that it has an extra level of vulgarity because of the language culture we have. While I don't believe in the hate/stereotypes/ignorance associated with many words labeled taboo, I most certainly want all those things implied with the use of those words attached to them when I use them to verbally assault another person. I don't find myself in that situation often though.

People tend to get too emotional upon words. I had a colleague from another country visit, and when he went into the store, he called someone in there a "negro", which should not be derogatory. But said person, took it in offense, all too readily. It is cultural biased or influenced

The term "political correct"(-ness / i.e. P.C.) is one used to alter or be constrained by a perceived orthodoxy. Such as the "New Left" and certain organizations or groups using it to defend their rights or ideas. Sometimes, being "Politically Correct" , or a person thereof, would seem as self-righteous.

There lies a paradox, when it is used to describe it pejoratively. In comparison when using it in a pedantic manner would make it to confine to the those ideas or freedoms of the "New Left" and those certain organizations or groups. However, this "confinement", itself cannot be politically correct if it restricts the "freedoms", of those who desire to voice their opposite views.

there's no paradox about it. pc is just being nice to other people with your language. i don't know if you're asian, but from your avatar, would you appreciate me calling you "slanty"? "nigger" is worse than that.

i don't know who your friends are. but little tip of advice, outside of your circle of friends, don't use it. "hey nigger, how are you doing?" that's a quick way to get stomped or shot. politically correct or whatever you want to call it.

Yeah...it might have something to do with those words being throwbacks to all those years of slavery, subjugation, oppression, torture, lynchings and organised racial privilige.

...what? So you're denying that Muslims lived in Israel prior to 1964? Who the hell were the people that conquered Jeruselum? They certainly weren't Buddhist. When Hitler went on his escapade killing Jews and the Muslims in Israel offered them safe haven, they (Jews) began immigrating from all the neighboring countries. They began building their own Jewish communities (which is normal) but it wasn't until they decided that they'd create Zionism paving the way for them to once again establish a homeland of their own. Once the Muslims were driven out of Jeruselum, they became a part of "Palestine".

And yes, they were considered "Dhimmis" but you say it as if it's a curse. When the Muslims held Jeruselum last for the period of 900'ish years, they offered the people living there three options: convert to Islam, keep your faith and pay an extra tax, or leave in peace.

It's called a disproportionate use of force. Learn what it means. The Palestinians shoot a missle over which doesn't even explode while they in return suffer from raped women and children and decimated villages.

Certainly fine options under the perspective that you're attempting to spread word of your religion. Had it been done by force, they all would have been turned into slaves or killed. Much better than how the Knights Templar treated their slaves.
