Depends. if hes acting distant he might be trying to figure out the same thing. maybe you would be better of to just say up front you think you should stop dating/take a break/ or see other people.
 
what's the best way of breaking up in a long distance relationship ( if you feel he want's to break up)
to make him regret acting distant
 
I would just tell the person that it is better for the both of you to be friends without any strings because of the distance.
