The confrontational nature of Religion: Just an observation?

I spend the majority of my time in the History and Science sections here, but have been getting some strange little pleasure reading all the crazy dogma in the Religion section...... and the cat-fighting is fun. That brings me to an interesting, if not obvious observation. Almost every exchange in this section is confrontational and many are meant to incite, which has been, I suppose, the staple of religion historically. I would love for someone to ask a question about gravity in the Science section and have responses like " hey stupid, ever heard of Newton"?

Of course, maybe I don't believe in gravity, and I need to be set straight.

Bring up religion in ANY forum on the internet

it results in people getting angry and confrontational, always - then eventually someone mentions hitler and/or nazis
