Verdict on that group after the first day?
Poland - choked again. Doubt they will get through unless they can step up a gear against the Germans, and get an early goal to settle their fragile nerves.
Germany - will probably get through, but a decent team will kill them. They have BIG problems.
Costa Rica - won't go through, but could just mess up someone else's chances if they aren't careful. Pathetic defensively, but Paulo Wanchope can still torment poor defences!
Ecuador - looked the best team in the group by a mile, and should go through, but will struggle against better quality opposition in the knockout stages.
Johnno's verdict: very weak group, but could throw up one of those deadly three-way-ties.

Germany are very poor defensively as a whole, if England face them, then we would stand a very good chance in beating them. Good in attack though, especially Klose going forward.
Ecuador, equally as good I think, but better defensively than Germany.
Other 2 teams in the group werent particulary impressive, but your right in saying that they need to shift a gear or two to compete.
Lets hope England can get past Paraguay this afternoon - im predicting 3-1 England!!

Very poor. The same thing happens every time. Wo go one-nil up near the begining and try to defend for the rest of the match. It didn't work against France, Brazil or Portugal and we all know it won't work here. I'm really getting sick of Sven and his "tactics". Hargreaves?????? Probably the worst player I've ever seen in an England shirt.
As was said, if you switched it round and made the way we played in each half opposite, people would have been happy. First games in tournaments are always hard, it's just the way it is, although I must agree with the comment on Hargreaves, he is, truly dire. We got the three points though, so be positive, there's enough armchair critics in this nation as it is.
