I've got to admit that Germany were FAR better than I expected, but 'at the end of the day', it was Argentina who blew it. They were sitting pretty, then Pekerman's substitutions threw the team into disarray. Why take off Riquelme, when your first priority should be retaining possession? If he was going to make a change then he should have brought on Messi for one of the other midfielders. Go with three up front and keep the German full backs deep - job done. Probably score another goal or two on the break as the Germans chase the game late on.

But fair play to Germany - they saw their chance and they seized it. (And they ALWAYS win penalty shoot-outs! )

Italy were good against Ukraine. It doesn't look like ANYTHING is going to distract them from the business in hand. They may lack genuine quality up front, but with a defence like that, they've always got a good chance.

WHY can we not win against ANYONE, when it comes to penalties...

And how much do you want to smack Ronaldo in the mouth for getting Rooney sent off, for JUST a push. The Ref didnt even react to the alleged stamping, which I thought was also accidental...

Oh well, back to normality - Won't be watching any more games during the World Cup, thats for definite

Meh, I think the fact that we got this far and lost on penalties flattered us. The whole team has been predominantly (sp?) second-rate througout the whole competition. When it comes down to it, England just can't deliver, it's a timeless classic.

Exactly, you would have thought that of all the teams left in the World Cup, Portugal would have probably been the only team that England could have beaten.

And you would have also thought that, with a game that the English invented, we would AT LEAST be half-decent at it.

Still dont see us winning a major tournament in the near future - unless McClaren makes positive changes, and actually STICKS to his formations. Glad Erikkson has gone

Nobody forced Rooney to push Ronaldo (deliberate stamp between the players legs then pushes an opposition player both right in front of referee!!
He deserved to go ...stupid stupid behaviour in such a big game.
England have been poor to watch and had Portugal been more clinical and potent up front then penalties would not have been an option.Personally I think England did well to get as far as they did considering their mediocre boring performances,Im afraid they finally came to the end of their Lollipop

Agreed - you wouldn't even do that move in a UFC match!

But I thought England were going to win, until I saw Lampard's face going to take his penalty.

You guys can hate on france all you want but the fact is they stepped up when they needed to. Zidane is amazing and he's not going out without a fight. Brazil still hadn't pulled it together and France capitalized. All Europe in the semi's, i can't wait.

LOL You saw that aswell then? thought it was just me...

Well done to France for getting through though, thought Brazil had that one in the bag again this year. Who knows how far England could have gone if we had beaten Portugal
