Thinking of buying a new bike.?

After the holidays I will be looking into purchasing a new bike. I have a Schwinn Mirada (hybrid) now and know I will never buy a cheap bike again. I'm 6 feet and 175 pounds. I would like to drop the hybrid and get a mountain bike. I liked the feel of Fugi bikes at the shop. I'm looking to spend about $600. Thanks ahead time for the advice.
