My laptop got a major major virus. Everything closed down before my eyes. It is now being reformatted in a shop down the road.
Tonight i am using my kids laptop and i just can't do anything at all, including looking at the answers to my questions. The websites i want to go on. Nothing works. I got so god damn sick of all the blocks that i tried to do things with no security at all. Wouldn't let me. Security fixed with no option to turn the damn thing off. No e mails, no answers. What is going on? Is the same virus infectng this computer also? I ask this question even though i won't be able to view your answers. At least until my main one comes back.
This thing is even blocking access to my my emails.

What he said above...

It is my personal experience that kids will go onto the dodgiest websites (non-sexual) and download every spam filled toolbar/program/website going because they haven't a clue, it was probably one of your kids that put the virus on your computer in first place....

Your kids' laptop is probably even more infected with malware than your own laptop, which is why it is working poorly. You'll have to get it cleaned, too.

I don't see how your child's PC got the virus unless he/she was careless and got one of his own - or - unless you and he/she were e-mailing each other. However, if it were me, I would first go into Safe Mode and run your antivirus software. I use Norton. Hopefully, if your AV software is uptodate, the virus will be removed.

Then, by clicking Tools, Internet Options, (from IE), you can check the Security, Privacy, and Content tabs. I have all mine set to Medium.

When you click the Content tab, click Enable. Here, I have the slider to the left which is 0. This should prevent smut.

After all this, you must use your own good common sense.
1. Do not open e-mails from anyone you do not know and trust.
2. Do not open attachments from anyone you don't trust.
3. Be wary of clicking on any links. Instead, if you must, type the address up into the address bar to see where it goes.

Here are three free programs you can download:

AVG free version, antivirus

scroll down and be sure to click on the free download

Ad-Aware -- Downloaded 2/10/08 from:

scroll halfway down the page to Adaware 7.0
click Download
Be careful not to click Buy if you want the free version only.
