Across the lake we spy a deer
With her a fawn, they show no fear
No sound we make, we watch them feed
Our eyes are drawn, as they proceed
Close after dawn, the sky so clear

The ice won’t break, they feel safe here
Their fear is gone, it brings us cheer
Light steps they take, the doe will lead
Across the lake

The spry young fawn, it’s such a dear
I watch it shake, and twitch its ear
My mind does ponder, trust, indeed…
Now full awake, no hunter’s greed
We watch it wander, past the reed
Across the lake
