I heard from a friend that my 97 honda civic engine d series has a chain on the cam gear instead of a belt, now i was wondering if anyone can help me by telling me if thats true or if thats wrong and if thats wrong, when is it a good time to get a new timing belt? never done it, car has around 177,*** miles

anyone help plz?

New Honda's have a chain, I am pretty sure 97 has a belt, its also an interference engine, so if the belt breaks you bend some valves, the belt should have been changed at 80K miles along with the water pump, you are very lucky, get it replaced soon.
