traveling to panama/costa rica?

I am planning an 8-10 day honeymoon in Costa Rica & Panama. Let me start by saying me and my fiancé are not Sandals resort type people. However, since we have never been to either country we need some tips on the best beaches, the best places to check out and how to get around the country without getting into any trouble. We do love to lay on the beach, but we like adventure and lush greenery more. Any suggestions for a relaxing, yet epic, trip to these beautiful countries.
