Trouble getting an internet connection with my linksys adapter?

I had to reboot my computer so all the information got erased. My linksys adapter was working fine until my computer had to be reboot. I installed linksys again and found the main connection in my house which is the linksys router in my mom's room. It would say associating with the access point but internet cannot be found. I have no slight clue on what to do. Any suggestions?
