We just bought a 2006 GMC Sierra. I bought it for my husband just before he returned home from Iraq a few days ago. It's a monster and beautiful. It has 12 inches of lift total and he's into lifted trucks so I figured this would be a wonderful surprise for him and it was, until...
The damn thing wouldn't start the day I went to get in it to drive to pick him up from the airport. - That was almost just the beginning...
Back up 3 days and the day I saw the truck I fell in love and knew he would too. I went to test drive it and was told the guy who drove it before me had left the lights on (auto lights... hmmm) and killed the battery. So the guy jumps it and I mention that if I buy it I'll want a new battery. He says no problem and we take it for a drive. It drives nice and I fall further in love. We stop at a bank that is mutually beneficial to both of us, I apply for a loan and an hour later walk out... Truck has a little trouble but then starts. I mention that I'd like to be covered in case it's the alternator or anything else of the sort and not the battery and he says that would be fine.
A couple hours later the truck is mine. The mechanic has left for the day and I am told to bring it back the following Monday to have the new battery installed. - Monday morning the truck starts but the radio won't come on... A brand new, (not factory) cd player and it won't come on. I do everything I can think of and it won't come on... I bring the truck in for the new battery and mention the radio... a couple hours I walk out with a new radio/cd player and a new battery - I'm told the radio was bad but they gave me a new battery too, since it had been drained... Good to go right? Not a chance!
The day I'm supposed to pick my husband up from the airport I try to get into the truck and it won't start... of course. I'm very disappointed and I'm told that once we are settled in I should have him jump it and bring it in and they will fix the issue. We bring it in, leave it for 2 hours and then get a call.. - Oh it was just one of the fold in, hideaway steps. The step doesn't fold it, does make an obnoxious sound when trying to fold in, but doesn't.. Wasn't a big deal when I bought the truck as I fully planned to take the steps off and have GoRhino Dominator III steps installed instead. So they disconnect the step and we are good to go. Right? - Wrong.
The very next day the truck won't start... WTH! - So I call up the guy and I tell him I think it's the dang alternator draining the battery. Guy says to bring it in and he'll have his guys take a look.. this time they say it's the factory amp. The other amp is okay but the factory one is draining the battery. - Really? Are you sure? - Didn't ask questions. They said if the problems persists to bring it back and they will rewire the whole truck if they have to.
The next day the truck is dead... WTF guys!!! - By now I'm just fuming. We take it in and drop it off for nearly the entire day. Do they rewire anything as promised? - NOPE.. now they disconnect the nice amp that is installed... now we have NO BASE... Bought the truck with base.. but now we have none. We are assured this time, they ran tests... when the truck is hooked up to the amp and turned off, the battery slowly drains.. when it's not, it doesn't... How many times they tried this to see if it was actually the amp and not that it just drains every other time it's shut off, I don't know.. but we are assured the problem was fixed.
Well, that was today... Tonight my husband pulled into a restraunt. We went in to eat and when we came out the radio came on for a few seconds and then went off. -Truck started fine but radio wasn't working... Same as before. I could turn the truck on and off a few times and the radio would come on but usually it would stop working after a few seconds. - Well my husband tried twice and got the same result so decided he'd just have to drive the truck home without radio... My guess is, the truck won't start tomorrow morning.
PLEASE HELP!!!! - I'm thinking of taking it in to get a second opinion but this is driving me crazy. We've had it about a week now and it doesn't like to start... either that or it will start but the radio won't work. What could be wrong?
