"...can i use a converter box to pick up my cable satellite?..." No. The only thing that works is a satellite receiver from the company that provides your service (DirecTv, Dish Network, etc.).

"...Or just something else?..." See above.

"... I want cable in my room on my tv..how can I make this happen?..." First, you don't want "cable" in your room. Cable and satellite are two different services. You want to extend your satellite service into another room. Your choices are:

1. Get a second receiver from the satellite company

2. Run a cable from one of the auxiliary output connectors on the back of the satellite receiver into the new room. The type of cable depends on the distance--generally, you will run RG6 coaxial cable from the receiver's auxiliary analog output. This gets you a standard-def picture in the other room, but at least the only cost is the cable and fittings.

3. Get a wireless sender to deliver the satellite receiver's output to the other room. See the link for an example. It appears that one will give you HD in the other room.

The disadvantage of #2 or #3 above is that you can only change channels on the satellite box, as usual. You can't watch one channel in one room and a different one in another. (There could be an exception for certain dual-tuner satellite receivers, but don't count on it.)
