did you watch that episode, the part where he was near the higway was all the way to the end, he had already walked a shitload to get there. this will never happen to Les because he doesnt move.
See thing is, everyone is going on who is actually surviving in the show. Does it matter that he's really doing it? No. Him trying to teach survival is all that matter, showing what you can and can't do is the key to his show. He doesn't have to be out there, there is no need, he's done it before.
Both of them are in it for the T.V aspect. Bear always jumping out of helicopters and eating snakes and things are for viewers. Just like Les saying, I'm totally alone I have my camera I'm by myself, by myself, by myself, taping it all, by myself. All of what both of them are doing is to drag in people to watch.
And I'd like to see you prove that Les is more knowledgeable. He too talks to natives before he goes out, just like Bear. Bears been doing what he does in the shows since he was a kid, Les got into it when he was a trail guide type guy. Bear learned from the best, the SAS. I'm sure his knowledge has come in handy when he climbed Everest, crossed the Arctic, etc, leaving him with more expeirence, rather than Les who was just a trail guide.

I would have to say Les Stroud > Bear Grylls.
Bear seems to just do stupid things survival wise, and more often than not the risk greatly outweighs the benefits. The benefit to his actions are being able to show the viewer how to get out of those situations. However, in all honesty, who in their right mind would jump into a frozen pond while in a survival situation? And getting stung by a bee and having your face swell up considerably... all for a small chunk of honey comb?
Les takes a more cautious and logical approach to filming his show. For one, he goes in with common, everyday items. People were crying about him having a gun in the arctic, but seem to forget that at the very beginning he said the insurance company and/or Discovery wouldn't let him go into the area without a gun... and he never used it. Bear, however, jumps into areas using a parachute... then uses the rope from the parachute?
And then when it comes to the all important aspect of finding food, Les takes a much smarter approach to it. For one, he actually cooks his fucking food. Bear just seems to enjoy running around looking for nasty ass shit to eat and make funny faces at the camera.
MvW is a fun show to watch, but Survivorman is more interesting.

There are 2 different types of survival. Self survival, and staying put type survival. They teach self survival in the military because they say that 90% of your survival is dependent on your actions, meaning you have to get out on your own. Les does a hybrid of that, sometimes at least.

bear doesn't exactly survive he makes a tv show that is aesthetically pleasing to a wide audience combined with shock value...
Les actually does survive and he does it all on his own and that is quite a feat but he often makes silly mistakes (he got a parasite in the swamp episode and slept next to the crocodile infested water, sometimes doesn't practice techniques before going into the bush(see first episode when he tries to make fire) slept with seal blubber in polar bear country etc.)
the best "survival guy" that i would have the most confidence in is Ray Mears, if you dont know who he is he has been making survival shows for the bbc for the last ten years and has the actually made a career out of teaching people how to survive in the wilderness (not just tv)

Bear Grylls for sure. Les Stroud's show is very informative, but it all surrounds the plot that if you were to ever get stuck in the wilderness, it would be because of an airplane crash, or some event that people would know that you're out there. This is okay for most people, but I think Bear Grylls is more of a "what you need to do to save yourself if you get stuck out on the wild and nobody knows where you are" type of a host. Most of his stuff may be fake, but it's informative.
Yes, he jumped into a frozen lake in order to show you how to survive hypothermia. Most people are saying, that's not surviving, that's being an idiot. But he's doing this to show the viewer what to do if say, they were stuck having to cross a frozen lake and they fall in. Practical uses and such.
I like watching both shows, but if you ever want to survive really being in the wilderness, listen to Bear Grylls. Les Stroud's ideas on survival are more for commercial flights, pre-planned expeditions/trips, etc. where people will be able to know that you've gone missing. In Boy Scouts, they teach a Les Stroud-type of mentality because they're assuming you've done all of their other pre-requisites, such as leaving a timeline of your plans with somebody who will be able to get you help in case you don't make it back on time.

Yeah. Plus Bear is showing you what he would do to survive, and when people say he's an idiot climbing waterfalls, he can do that because the point is to show himself surviving, and what you could do in a desperate situation, giving fun and useful facts along the way.
