unlocking an iphone 3G?

I found an iphone 3g a while back, handed it in and now have it back as it was not claimed, obviously it has been blocked by the original owner, is there a way i can unlock it so i can use my sim in there please, if so how?

You can contact the service provider or get codes from unlocking websites.
