There is a derelict little tugboat moored at a boat builders in Whitby. It is a classic American tugboat and it is possible to make out US xxxx was once painted on its stern. It has a square wheelhouse (Most tugboats seem to have had rounded front wheelhouses) on top of its deckhouse with front access by a staircase type ladder from the foredeck. There are ten scuppers along the deck edge. The wheelhouse side door has a step above the deck so the side railings are raised to correspond. Missing are the rudder, screw, mast and exhaust stack and casing. Its size and general looks suggest to me that it was a harbour tugboat rather than a sea going vessel, perhaps US Army, perhaps World war Two or shortly after? I am curious about its original identity and how it got to Whitby.
