I am turning 18 soon n I was wondering which is better a new or used sport bike .... N I was planing to get a kawaski ninja 300 ... So wats better to do ?
Your money, but a used bike in good condition works out better as a starter-bike.
Not saying that you will 'drop' the bike a time or two in the process of learning but it's a high probablity that you will. Replacing new 'stuff' is not cheap, replacing older isn't cheap either but the offset in price makes you 'want' to ride more, AND that my friend is what riding is all about.
used all the way!
i was in the same situation, i had just turned 18 and it had been a dream of mine to get one, any my parents said since i was an adult now i could make my own decisions. i debated this idea greatly for a while and i finally concluded on buying it used.
the facts are:
buying a new bike, you wont have any problems with it mechanically for the most part, just like buying a new car.
buying a used bike, you have a greater chance of things going wrong with it since it is used, so it will be cheaper but you may have to pay for repairs.
that being said, i've always been told this - " there are two types of motorcycle riders. those who have wrecked, and those who haven't wrecked YET."
you want to get a sports bike, as did it. and you're almost guaranteed to lay it down at least once while parking, backing up, or riding slow. the fairings on a sports bike can go for upwards of $1,000, so would you rather scratch up a brand new shiny bike or an older one you got for cheaper? you're going to be inexperienced, as am i, so that was a bid deciding factor for me.
i searched craigslist in my area every day multiple times a day until i found the one i bought, a 1995 ninja 250 for $1,075 cash. i wouldn't do it over if i had the chance, because its not hard to find a bike in good condition for a cheap price. especially with winter coming up, a lot of people will be looking to sell theirs soon.
also, with our age, getting a sports bike doesn't look good for insurance. but with a small bike such as a 250, i luckily only pay $250 a year for just full coverage, with 2 car accidents on my record. so please, take it from my own experience, don't get anything bigger than a 250 or 300 as your first bike. i love cars, i really love fast cars, and the 250 has some get-up-and-go to it. if you think you want a 600, think against it because insurance will be a lot, you wont have any idea what to do with that kind of speed, they're more expensive; and since they're harder to control with an inexperience of power and more expensive, if you do drop it someday it will most likely break your heart.
best of luck, ride safe, and i hope you can find a good deal on a used one or new one. and when you do, www.kawiforums.com has a plethora of information on ninja's, forums are your friend!
DON'T buy a new bike, especially something smaller like a Ninja 300. Why not buy a nice 250 3 or 4 years old with a few miles on it, something you can buy, learn on and sell when you're ready to upgrade without losing money?
