sound from my dvd threw the tv? if a blu ray player does not have jacks for a 5.1 surround sound, using an HDMI cable from my Blu-Ray to my t.v. and hooking up the surround sound to my tv, will i get surround sound from the dvd in the player?

No. The tv only puts out sound on two speakers. The hdmi cable gives you audio and video and is your best connection.

If you have a receiver for s/s, you don't really say you do, just connect a rca cable or digital cable from the tvs audio output to the input of the s/s. The the blu ray and everything connected to the tv will have s/s.
