Using Tv as Monitor resolution help!?!?

Hey guys, I'm using a sony bravia TV as a monitor which is full 1080p and i have plugged in my VGA cable but it is not giving out full resolution it is only letting me go as far as 1360x768 please help if its possible to get the resolution fixed.

p.s would a HDMI cable help as well?
 
Sony Bravias do indeed work best over HDMI. I use a 52-inch Bravia as my monitor, and it's connected to my computer via HDMI. Works perfectly at 1080p: http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f347/armchairaviator/computer/IMG_0880c.jpg

Which model Bravia do you have? If yours is one of the smaller 36-inch models, remember that the 36-inch Bravias have two versions-- Most are 720p only (1360x768), only the higher-end models are 1080p (1920x1080).
