vacation plans in california?

Ok so, I am planning to go to California this summer for a mini-weekend vacation trip. I was thinking maybe from Friday to Monday with my best friend. I want to give her this vacation as her graduation gift.

Could you please tell me what I have to plan, how much the whole trip costs, hotel, food, etc etc, stuff like that.

Any more additions would be appreciated. Thank you!
I am going to travel from Illinois to Los Angeles, California.

-Any cheapest airlines I should know about?
-Cheapest hotel in Los Angeles?
-Obviously we are younger than 25, so what transportation could we use to get around of Los Angeles?
 
The whole trip cost isn;t something we can determine lol, you never told us where you live, what you want to do their etc, you can look up hotel prices online etc, also i don't know which part of california your going to, but if your going to or near LA make sure you go to the beach, sixflags, disneyland, knottsberry farm, seaworld, not all of them but atleast one ;)
