Verizon Wireless question on stolen phone. SOS?

I am going to buy the HTC Thunderbolt tomorrow from a friend because she found it a while ago. I heard though if you try to activate it it could be on the stolen list which if it is than you cannot activate it. Is there a website where you can see if it is on the stolen/blocked list? i dont wanna buy it and than i cant even activate it.
 
No only a Verizon store or authorized retailer can check that.

IMHO, your friend's a loser. Trying to sell something she "found", yeah right.
