we are picking up a new puppy tonight, some tips on making it easy for the dog?

I thought about bringing a bag of small cut up hot dogs, to keep in my pocket while I take the time to get to know her.

What else should I be doing? I just don't want to show up and snatch the dog up and leave, I think that would be stressful to the previous family and to our new dog.

Your thoughts?
And of course, I would be feeding her the little hot dogs to get her firmilar with me. >.> I orginally made it sound like I just be some lady carrying out dogs around in my pockets, lol. Funny.

i vote no to the hot dogs, try bringing little dog treats. try staying at the house for a little bit, but dont stay too long cause you might annoy the family. ask if you can hav the dogs old blanket or chew toy and make sure that the dog is laying on a blanket in the car so he/she doesnt get it dirty and pet it to calm it.

Hot dogs are a bad plan. They are hard to digest & will give the poor puppy hours of passing bad wind. It will also start it believing that hot dogs are dog food not human food.

Take a warm blanket, a towel which the breeder will rub on the mum so puppy thinks it's her & someone to sit on the back seat & hold puppy whilst you are driving to make sure he is safe. Good luck. Enjoy the experience.

No hot dogs. Why start the dog on a bad diet?

Your puppy will most likely sleep most of the way home. It's what puppies do. Just pet her, make sure you get a baggie of what the current owner is feeding her to mix in with whatever you'll be feeding her. You'll want the change in diet to be gradual, so it won't upset her tummy.

It would be a good idea to bring a blanket, some dog toys, and make sure the car will be very calm for her. I wouldn't suggest bringing her hot dogscut up hot dogs because you don't want her to start off on human food. But maybe break up little peices of puppy treats, because if hot dogs are something she's unfarmiliar with it could be overwhelming. Hope I helped!
