Book will be based on earth but will be sci fi in nature, aliens etc.

Do you think its better to have chracters with normal names than weird names even if they are from another planet? do you think it makes it more relatable with normal names? or cool with names like darth vader etc... ( just example )

personally have weird names if it is in the future-humans included. For example, One of my minor characters is named Anni and another Halles.

If they are from another planet, definitely give them weird names. Since they are from a different place, they will likely not have heard of the names we use so they will have their own names that are popular on their planet. However, if our planet and theirs have been in contact for many years, then you could use Earth names because they could have picked up some ideas from us. You should also give Earthings some made up names too so it's like we were inspired by their names too. And if it's set in the future, try some made up names for the earthlings too. After all, people are coming up with new names all the time. Keep some classic ones though because some names never go out of style.
