Went underwater with car, need to know if engine will work.?

I went almost fully underwater with my diesel pickup truck, no snorkel.

They had to pull it out, my question is, what would have happened if I had tried to turn the engine while underwater, the hood was completely underwater not the whole car, the car stalled when it went in, the rest of the car was in the water but not covered.

The engine should work. After all, we wash our engines all the time with water. maybe you will have to remove any water from the fuel system, and some sensors may have gone bad. Also relay switches. But I don't think it is a total loss. An oxygen tank would have helped and a scuba suit.

Not only did you do what the other poster said, but you also sucked water into the breather, which put water into your fuel system. Get that motor oil out of it.
