What a good car for an outdoors loving teen?

Ok so i am about to turn 16 and i am thinking about my first car. I am male btw if that influences anything. I really enjoy camping so i want a car that will work well with that and have at leeast decent off road ability. Finally, I do not want to break the bank on gas. Any recomendations?
PS. my parents are strict on saftey

well i am an outdoorsy kid and im 18 i bought a 98 dodge dakota 5.2L 4x4 it gets 14 mpg which could be better but it has only been stuck once and i have had it in some nasty mud and muck i would also recomend a jeep wrangler if u want gas and not really worried about power get a 4 cyl and or a 6 cyl also look for an manual because they r better on gas and as far as safety if u dont lift the jeep crazy high and u dont drive like and asshole then u dont have to worry about tiping and if u do i had a friend roll his 99 wrangler just to do it (he has a lot of money) and he had no major injuries the jeep rolled 4 times and he had a 9 inch lift with 3 inch body and 38 supper swampers and the jeep stil runs and he still muds in it!! good luck enjoy the out doors!!
