Hi I'm a hibachi waitress, and I also work in retail at DOTS and Hollister, and it's appropriate to greet saying things such as 'hey guys' 'how are you guys doing today' 'do you guys need any help?'. That's what i'm use to since I work my retail jobs more than my waitressing job. I'm been told by my restaurant manager that saying 'guys' is like disrespect towards the elderly or to most customers. I agree, but it's difficult to switch my wording, like when i greet, i'd say 'good evening guys' or near the end i'd ask 'would you guys like any dessert' or 'would you guys like me to give you your check'? then 'thank you guys, have a good night!' what are proper ways to greet and communicate in the restaurant environment without using 'guys'? i don't want to be disrespectful. i know i can use like sir, mister, miss, but i'm talking about like maybe a couple/pair, or a group of people?
