I'm writing a children's fantasy novel in which my character is frequently exploring, walking, and hiking through various forests, caves, and other places. This gets excruciatingly difficult to write. I feel as though my writing looks immature if I simply skip the details of the walking, but it becomes uninteresting to write about, for example: "She walked. She walked and walked for what felt like hours through the forest, occasionally tripping over logs and other obstacles. She scratched the back of her head, and continued walking. This is getting extremely uninteresting. She walked."

And then come even more scenarios in which I must describe walking in order to make it clear to the reader that the character is venturing far. How can I make this easier and more interesting? Any tips on anything regarding this subject?
