What are some good science electrical gadgets that I could make with batteries?

I need to know what I can make for a project please give me at least an idea cause I want to make something original but I don't have any ideas!!!! I need to make something with batteries and something that would be handy in human life but not so hard to build.

A super simple device to turn a AA cell into a noisy timing fire cracker.
one piece AA alkaline cell.
one piece AWG# 12 guage copper wire about 4 inches.
short the cell with copper wire, cell turns very hot within 60 seconds then explore. Run away as far as you can while doing this test.
