what are some good sports bikes around $2000?

im looking on craigslist for some local adds about sports bikes like the ninja. and i really dont know any model names for these bikes im looking for 500cc and up for around 2000$ in california. thanks

The Kawi EX500 is a nice bike. Twin cil with carbs. Easy to work on, fast in the upper rpms and easy to manage in the low rps. Looks cool, good gas milage.... and cheep!

For $2K you should be able to find a 600CC sportbike from the mid to late 90s in half decent shape.

Kawasaki Ninja, Suzuki GSXR, Honda CBR, Yamaha YZF

You would do well to try and save another $1k.

With $3k cash you should be able to bargain your way onto something between 2000 to 2004 in good shape.

Just rememebr your after purchase expenses. You will need a helmet and jacket at a minimum.
Then you'll need to change the oil & filter, air filter, coolant flush, maybe brakes & tires, spark plugs, and battery.

Getting an older bike may mean you would spend another $1k in repairs and maintenance anyway.

I think you should double check amazon and ebay so that you can establish a base price for your wanted bike and get a better idea of what is out there in your options Cause even used bikes will run about 3-5 in the thousands for a reliable one newer than the 1980's model year production bikes. Example a 2004 mini-chopper moped motorbike on http://www.amazon.com should run ya about $1,700.00+tax title and registration. http:/www.dmv.ca.gov can provide the FAQ of legal driving of motorcycles, mopeds, cars etc... I would start you their to help you stay out of the jail/prison system, since i wouldn't want a fellow user to end up somewhere i myself would never want to be myself. Also thanks for coming here to research your purchase.

No research is complete without some so-called "leg-work" but in the end it pays dividends in avoided headaches, repair costs i.e. no productive shop repair time, $70.00 hour labor (varies from shop to shop) parts replacement it can get very expensive.

Any used 500cc Ninja or Suzuki will do ya. Don't forget all the well used 600cc bikes from Honda and Yamaha. Check out Craig's List or your local Auto Shopper newspaper. You might also call a handful of local bike dealers and ask them if they have something in your price range.
