What are the best manga/anime series that aren't extremely well known?

I know pieces like "Ghost in The Shell," "Akira," "Golgo 13," "Cowboy Beebop," etc., but I'm looking for series that aren't as well known (specifically in the sci-fi and action oriented genres). I'm new to manga and anime, and I'm just looking for some guidance on what to read next. Thanks!

Blue Seed, Gravitation, Princess Tutu, Pretear, Tokyo Mew Mew, Princess Princess, Mamotti Lollipop, Kadocha, Kitchen Princess(it's only a manga), Me and My Brothers(it's only a manga), Chibi Vampire, Mermaid Melady, Inuyasha, Gakuen Alice(better manga then anime), Beuty Pop(only a manga), Hona Yuri Dango, A Portrait of M and N.

hehe well Theres Kiba,Air Gear both are eng dubbed til the end so dont worry umm theres also omg i forgot its slap up party arad-senkei best anime that has little over 50000 fans but its awsome its been finished for about 2 years now but only in subbed but the main char is dude of my pic like avatar
right to the left... hes sick aint he but still its sad cuz he dies when he fights my boss shes whips him on a tower pole thing on likeold castles and stuff and kills him but hes got a power sorta like allen walker mixed with ichigo its demon arm getsuga tenshos!!!!! wooooooooot
