What book was this?! Help! on the cover was a dog made of a watch...?

When I was in 3rd grade my teacher read us a book about some guys adventures or something and all I can remember was there was a dog that was made out of a pocket watch or a stop watch.. he was a "watch" dog, I never got to hear the end of the story because I moved in the middle of the year to another school district, I'd like to read it now.. any idea what it was?!
