You know how infered red light burns a normal CD/DVD disc? Does an infered blue light burn a blu ray disc?

You need a laser with a short enough wavelength to burn only the places you want.

For CD that means IR (short wavelength though, not long wavelength you feel as heat), DVD means a red laser (even shorter wavelength), Blu-Ray a blue-violet laser. Those are something like 750, 650, and 450 nm respectively.
