What cellphone provider(s) can I use my sony ericsson phone with?

We have a sony ericsson phone that we used while living in England. Is it possible to use our current phone with one of the cell providers in the US? And if so, what are our options?
Well, it works on roaming currently. I thought that perhaps that meant we may be able to cut out the middle man so to speak, and stop being charged for roaming by just switching providers. And yes, it does have a SIM card.
 
We actually need more information. I doubt that your cell phone from England will work here in the United States with one of our cell phone providers. Your cell phone would have to be unlocked and reprogram in its software to work with one of our cell phone providers here in the USA. Also your cell phone must use a sim card as well. The important thing is that cell phone must be unlocked.
