What computer for graduation present?

Inspirons are kinda hit or miss on quality. The XPS are rock solid. Personally I would look at the later of the two.

get a macbook pro. if its to costly, then the macbook. having the versatility to take it to class is necessary in college. and then ask for a timecapsule too, and send it to me as a thanks for my opinion.

my sis has an inspiron and it seems pretty good. i still prefer my asus f5

you don't really need 3gb's of ram unless you game alot(and you said you don't). 2gb would be more than enough

Dont get a PC everyone I know who has one at college regrets it. I use a Macbook and love it.

Wow... Ive given up on this thread. Thanks for using the poll people.

Scratch that I think Ill live through some more questions as I have some of my own. First, since macbook only come in 13 inch displays im thinking about buying a cheaper but equal in performance with a bigger screen and slapping leopard on it. Yay, Nay?

best thing to do would be get a macbook and put windows on it also. i have a friend who has a macbook at college and there are some programs that they have to use for some classes that require windows. also, you will have more variety.

Get a macbook pro. That's what my dad is getting me for graduation (or at least that's what I picked).

Macs suck balls now for anything graphics related. Either buy a good dell or hp laptop or build your own desktop.

Wait you dont need a computer for video editing, and you dont need a computer for gaming?? What are you getting a computer for? Notes? Interwebs? AiM ?

I should say this, if you are getting a compute for normal computiing uses, macs are fine. Overpriced with worse performance but fine because you wouldn't notice anything.

However if you need something fast with good graphics, or if price is an issue because your parents aren't loaded, get a PC because you will get more bang for your buck. You can also use way more programs, play games, and do anything that a mac can do.

Remember that with a mac, you are essentially giving all your money to apple. You need to buy their programs, their accessories, their parts and service, in general, with a mac you spend a lot more. Also, a lot of programs for classes are PC only. Macs also break fairly easily, considering my moms emac has had horrible problems, even after apple replaced half the damn computer and my friends mac broke very easily.

I guess if you want to be the hipster sitting in the starbucks drinking your latte while checking your blog to see what your favorite indie record label is up to, then a mac is for you.

If you actually want to use your computer for something other then the most basic computing uses get a PC.

In the end, its your (well your parents) money and if they wanna spend a lot for a little then its all up to you.
