I wanted to make a back up copy of a movie I already had. I burned the movie on DVD-r disc because I learned they work most on DVD players. It will play on my computer but not in my DVD player. What did I do wrong?

Need more detail in the steps you took. Did you have to click and open the file on the computer to play the DVD?

Most likely your DVD player can't read it.

What program did you use to burn it? And what file format was the DVD ripped in on to the computer? did you make the DVD a .iso file before you burned it??

What format is the file or disc? Just google most recognisable format dvd players, a list somewhere will come up.

If its compatible ... Do you have Windows Media Center/Player? Use this, you can configure it to top quality.

Press alt on windows media player tools>options>burn (tab) and configure it there.
If you are using Windows Media Center (type it in) it is easier to use, straight forward.

For Windows Media PLAYER Drag and drop the disc/folder/file, whatever the movie is onto the burn section, just like you do with songs.

Let windows format it.
It seems like either your DVD did not recognise it, OR you formatted the disc wrong. So let Windows do it automatically, which is the best.
