using my computer.? I have a ton of 3/4" U-Matics and 1/2" tapes I wish to archive. I have the 3/4" and VHS machines, but can not seem to find a solution where I can take the BNC cabled outputs (or I will use RCA cable if needed) and send it to a firewire or USB input for the computer.
I have seen some converter cables (RCA to Firewire), but the fine print implied I may need additional hardware to convert. Am I over thinking this? Do I just need the converter cables and let my computer's (iMovie if I use my Mac - preferred, but can use a PC if needed) import the signal? I do not believe the 3/4" machines can be slaved to the computer just via the RCA/BNC to firewire and something else must be needed?
I have seen some professional hardware in the $3000 and up price range, but this offers other features and is major overkill. Years ago a colleague used a simple $300 device and did his library, so there must be something economical now?
I have hundreds of tapes (company work - own all copyrights) and it is too costly to use a service.
Any information on what may be required would be appreciated. THANKS!!!!!! : )
