Foodwise, you need to plan meals out or you'll end up with a lot of lame meals.

In general, it's good to get a large amount of rice, pasta, and/or potatoes.
A good quantity of oil and/or butter, too, and basics like salt, pepper, onions, and garlic (jar is fine). Good to get non-food necessities like ziplocs, foil, coffee (if you drink it), detergents/soaps, etc.

Aside from that, you just need to figure out what you like cooking AND eating. I can tell you now that the crock pot is an awesome invention for the newly domestic and can save a lot of time in the long run. A big crock pot of chili, for example, can last 2 people a week.

If you're new to cooking and all, definitely opt for frozen vegetables over fresh ones or you can end up wasting a lot of produce. Canned vegetables are disgusting, don't use them.

Me and my bf just moved in together and we were both living with our parents before and have no idea what to buy we go shopping once a week

This ranks up there as one of those very strange questions. You are adults. You should certainly know what basics are needed. But anything else depends on whether you cook most meals, eat junk/prepared/frozen foods, and what foods you like, even when it comes to stocking up on herbs & spices.

Basics:

Herbs & spices (salt, pepper, garlic powder (not garlic salt), oregano, parsley, dry mustard, chili powder, cumin, etc., etc. Go and look over all the herbs and spices in the grocery store, and get what you think you will use)

Fresh garlic, lettuces, onions, potatoes, pastas, rice

Flour, sugar, bread crumbs (seasoned & plain), baking powder, baking soda, olive oil, canola oil, (other oils you may prefer), cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, etc.

Cereals (granola, hot, cold, etc.)

Mustard, mayo, ketchup, worc. sauce, soy sauce, butter, maybe a light butter, slices cheese, block cheeses, bread, maybe hamburger rolls, maple syrup (the real stuff)

Beans, salsa, corn, canned crushed tomatoes, tom. paste,

Paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, q-tips, dish soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener, shampoo.

I love to cook, and cook healthy foods, so making a list for adults who should be entirely capable of making their own lists, but have to come here to ask, kind of makes it impossible to know what you would actually need.

If you want to cook real food, then find some easy recipes and make a list from that. I make sure I have enough food for breakfast (eggs, milk, tortillas or bread), lunches, (I usually make my own soup so I buy produce and meat, or you can buy canned soups. If you want sandwiches, bread, cheese, deli meat, mustard, mayo, etc.). And dinners of course. I again make my own dinners because it is so much cheaper, but you can buy frozen meals, or stuff you make out of a box.

I always make sure I have enough healthy snacks on hand so I don't overeat on the bad stuff. Stuff like popcorn, olives, and pickles. It seems really overwhelming, but you will get into a groove with the grocery store after a few months.

Think of what you want to have for meals and the ingredients required to make them. Some things to keep around the house on a regular basis might be...

Mayo
Mustard
Ketchup
Peanut butter
Cans of soup
Rice
Noodles
Cereal
Milk
Pasta - Mac & Cheese, Pasta roni
Sour cream
Salsa
Jelly
Hot sauce
Salt
Pepper
Garlic powder or minced garlic
Bread
Tortilla's
Spam
Eggs
Potatoes
Cans of chili
Cheese...slices, shredded and/or slices

Spend some time in the Fruits and Vegetables, then slowly start walking through the aisles. I don't' know why supermarkets place the fruits and vegetables in the middle of the meats & cakes and the frozen junk so be careful with those areas.

Add some cereal to your cart and move all the way to where the milk and yogurts are. right after that you will find the beers so keep an eye on your BF :)

Uuhhhh.....food you both enjoy eating.

Just run around a grocery store and find what you like. However, if you have a budget make sure you are tracking your purchases ;)

Healthy things you enjoy and stuff that's necessary. Tp, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. Go to target, ull find stuff u need
