What does the health cheat do in gladius for the original xbox?

I enter the cheat in battle and it makes the noise but nothing happens I look at there health and nothing has changed! Same thing goes for the affinity cheats I enter them they make the noise and nothing changes. Am i entering it in the wrong place?
