I joined the Army National Guard a week ago. I just had my first and last drill before basic. Although I did fine with my running and sit ups, I only did 9 push ups. Out of all the people there, I think I did the least. I've never been so ashamed of myself. My recruiter told me it was okay because I'd be placed into a physical fitness unit once I arrived. What will I do there? I don't want to fail no matter what. Will they be able to raise mu push up count in the proper amount of time? I leave in 6 days and will be doing as many as possible before then. I need to do 17 I think. I am just depressed that I was only able to do 9. I beat a lot of the guys that smoked me in push ups by a lot in the 2 mile run. Out of 52 I placed third, if that means anything.

It's commonly called the "fat boys club". Most people that cannot meet minimum PFT standards are overweight and out of condition. So they form special companies with more emphasis on getting you up to minimum standards.

9 Pushups? Good thing you're in the National Guard, and not the regular army or Marines, no offence. The Physical Fitness Unit's goal is to get you stronger, faster, and tougher, so you can make the basic training. You will probably have to exersise a lot, and maybe even get a set diet.

3rd out of 52 in running in impressive, and running is really important in the military. But 9 pushups? I'm going into highschool ( Joining the Military after) and I can do 40 easily. Just try to build up everyday. Do 9 Pushups today, 10 tommorow, 11 the next day.

lol, back when I played water polo in high school my coach would make us pump out 100 after every practice. More if we screwed up

At least you aren't fat...
