What happened in history after Christ's death that made it year 1 a.d?

For example if I die today tomorows not gonna be year 1 all over again... So how did it happen for this for this time line to be split by Christ's death?

it is believed Jesus was born in B.C.4 and died in 30 A.D I don't know all the particulars of why the calendar is the way it is but i have told you what I do know.
