What happens when you shift your car to park while still moving?

My friend turned my car off when I was still moving, then I shifted to park right after he did that because I hesitated. Then my car started making a bunch of loud and fast clicking and grinding sounds. It runs fine and the parking pawl still seems to work.

Is there any unseen damage I may not know about? Is my car still fine?
