Looking to purchase my first bike, not much riding experience only have my beginners riders course liscence. Im 5,6 165lbs. I Like the Yamaha R6 but i here that may be too strong but i also here a step down to any 250cc to not worth it and too weak. How many cc`s should i be looking for on a first bike?

Get a 600cc bike.. a 250 is fine but you will lose money as you will want more power in a few months!!
I did that.. got a cbf 250 and it was great! but after 2 months I was dying to have more power.. and i'm not a fast rider!.. I got a bandit 600 and its more than fine for beginners. I got it 2 months after i got my license.. its been nearly 2 years now and you can even get a bigger bike if you want.. just drive safe!

I agree with Ben. A great starter sports bike is a Ninja 250. It was my third bike, but I'm a girl and a tiny bit smaller than you are. Yamaha R6 is a great bike if you're experienced. So I say get a used Ninja 250 and save up for a better bike. It will be worth it and you probably won't kill yourself that way.

A Ninja 250 is good to start out on and will go 100mph+ easily. Do yourself a favor and get a ninja 250 to start out on then after a year or two trade it in on a 600.

If you absolutely have to get something bigger than a Ninja 250 get a Ninja 650r but don't get mad at me when you wreck it.

About 90% of new bike riders that get a 600 sport bike to start out on either leave it parked in their garage because they are afraid to ride it or total it out within a few short months because they can't react to situations that a seasoned rider thinks nothing of.
