I'm 5'9", 150lbs. 16 and I think a motorcycle would be cheaper for my future college commute. I already ride a YZ250F regularly, so I know how to ride.

okay because i had trouble picking my first bike i would like to help you. first off i would say go take a MSF (motorcycle safety class) if you haven't yet. i am 18 and started riding a bike when i was 17 1/2 so i know where you are at. i would tell you to start on either a ninja 500, 250, or 650. i know, the 650R right sounds big. but in reality it is not violent at all. it works on the freeway to pass up cars when needed and it is thee perfect beginners bike. i know because i started on this bike and still ride it. it is not what people say that because it is 650cc it is more powerful than a 600cc. so there is my input. i would tell you to start on one of those. however, i would say start on a 250 because it tunes in your skill more. i would have started on that but because i got a good deal on the 650 i took that. also if you want a nice looking 250 look into the hyosung gt250r. since its your first bike and most likely your gonna move up fast, id say get the hyosung. hope i helped good luck ride safe.

While it doesn't look like a Ninja the Buel Blast has won several awards for being a GREAT starter bike. In fact it was designed by Buel specifically for first time riders. If I was you I would ride one before I many any decisions.

P.S. Buel is owned by Harley.

if you are 16 I'd say a Ninja 250. Plenty of power with those and they look cool. I have a Buell Blast (500cc) another good bike.

ninja 500 is a good beginners bike, fast enough to be a fun ride but not so fast that you can get into trouble without expecting it.

the ninja 250r is great because its cheap, but the yamaha fz6r will have more power for the interstate etc, but its thousands more when buying new. Also, remember that if you cant pick the bike up off the ground by yourself when it gets knocked over, you shouldnt be riding it! if your lightly built and short, the 250r would be a great choice. plus u could probably get a 2009 for cheap when the 2010's come out.
