What is an ideal cellphone and service for what I want?

I'd like a relatively cheap cellphone available from T Mobile, using their family plan, that I can use to call and text a lot. That is all I really need, as because if I was to get a cellphone, I would either want it very high-tech (all the bells and whistles) or very minimalistic, and I can't afford the former. I would like to know a good service to go with it, and what the overall cost would be spanning a year of time. If possible, I'd like to know if there is a phone with the same features, but with e-mail management and possibly Facebook integration, and their price comparison. Thanks in advance.
