Im learning about the catholic faith, and i would like to know from someone's own words, not websites as resources, about Catholicism as they experience it.
and if they could answer in their own words from their own experience: what generally is the meaning of religion? what is it for? ( not your religion but generally, is it for hope? is it to give meaning to the world?
How would you describe your religion to a person not familiar with it? how do you practice your religion?
what does your religion mean to you?
in general what is the role of religion?

I'm a Protestant, but the Catholics believe the same general message as the Protestants below as both are Christian. Most important in life is to know and follow God as a Christian so you can get God's guidance, help, and get to heaven forever after you die someday, if you live a good, God-honoring life. God is our spiritual Father, life, love, all-powerful, all-knowing, eternal, holy. Praying the prayer below will make you a Christian. Then, live it out with love for God and Jesus Christ, love others, Bible study, prayer, and church. It's about having a relationship with God.
This is how to know God -- the basic Christian message and prayer --- you need to accept God's Son, Jesus Christ, into your life to be a Christian and follow God's ways so you can receive God's guidance in your life and get to heaven after you die. Knowing God can transform your life. When you know God, then pray about your life, God can help you live a better life. As God is love, life is primarily about love and relationships in order to have a rich and full life. Also, you need to know God's Son, Jesus Christ, in your life as your Lord and Savior as Jesus died on the cross as payment for our sins. Having Him with you will give you God's blessing and forgiveness, as you live God's way. Not following God leads to hell, eternal suffering. Instead, there is an important prayer to pray to become a Christian. This prayer should be said with faith in God and a sincere heart:
"Dear God, I know that I am a sinful person and I don't want to be like this anymore. I know that Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for our sins, and I want to accept Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior so I can receive God's forgiveness, guidance, and go to heaven someday. Thank you, dear God, for your mercy and guidance; in Jesus' name. Amen."
This prayer can take you to a new place in your relationship with God and transform your life. After saying this prayer, you should check out a Christian church. The church can get you baptized and prayed for, and you can pray for yourself daily.
The church can get you into their Bible study group so you can learn more about God, Jesus, and God's will for your life. The Bible is God's instruction book about how to live a God-honoring life so you can go to heaven after you die. Ways to stay connected to God's path include loving God and Jesus Christ, obeying God's ways, daily Bible reading, daily prayer for yourself and others, getting to church, having your church prayer group and/or pastor pray for you, fasting with prayer for a higher level of prayer, getting with other Christians and doing a Bible study, singing hymns to God, taking communion with the church, helping and loving others, expressing your gratitude to God for His help in your life by telling others of your progress and helping them draw closer to God too, tithing, volunteering at church. God guide your life.

As an ex-catholic,

Catholicism means universal, but in reality , the religion is all about suffering
Nuns suffer whereas Priests and Bishops have cushy living -

And fanatic catholics here in R&S justify all the gross deeds of their church which they proudly call as "defending the true church"

It is a multi-billion dollar business...It is exploiting the poor, deceiving the gullible rich people
They exchange money from gullible rich and provide to starving poor, which they proudly call as charity

Lately, it has become the largest pedophile ring in the planet

EDIT:

**Research about oppression of women by the Catholic church
**Persecution of gay people by Catholic church - Author Anne Rice quit Catholicism for the same reason...Watch her videos in youtube

I know we welcome your questions, but you ask a lot all at once. I'll start by simply saying that the Church is founded by Jesus Christ Himself in Matthew 16:18. That verse is the only verse we use for such proof. And it includes verse 19 and Matthew 18:18 for the infallible authority to formulate its teachings. Mother Teresa is one of the latest and best good example of someone who truly believed and practiced the faith. The best source of Catholic teaching is the Catechism. I strongly suggest watching the Catholic television channel EWTN as a very good source of information including recent converts to the faith some of whom even became priests (A Journey Home). You cannot go wrong watching this station for the very best offered in the Catholic faith.

Religion is man's word for the belief you follow. People always ask, "what religion are you?" I'm not a religion. I believe in God. I have faith, not religion.
I grew up Catholic and had to get out of te cult! I mean, the statues, the holy days, the rosary, and the idolatry around Mary.. YIKES!!! And... I felt like I was suffocating when it came to singing to God. We are not allowed to jump and scream and holler,or even cry and fall to our knees.

If possible, make an effort to get out of the Catholic cult. You'll be glad you did....
