What is good real workout routine to tone abs and thighs?

ok well i'm not a very big person, i'm not fat, just unfit. I'm small and petite but i've been gaining some unsightly weight on my stomach and thighs [freshman 15 haha] and I was hoping to find some real workout routines that I can start on from experienced people. I dont want to get buff, just toned.
