which is the normal supply in the uk please? if you only have single phase is it bad for some equipment? (I'm talking about normal domestic stuff like PCs, washing machine, tv, microwave etc, nothing special or industrial)

3-phase is a system reserved for medium to heavy industrial use.It allows machines to maximise power from a given supply.

All domestic equipment and supply is single phase

Domestic stuff is single phase. You get one live wire and one neutral (and possibly an earth). 3 phase is normally used for industrial equipment, has 4 wires and is usually 440 volts. To explain why there are 4 wires would require a physics lesson. Single phase is what you need.

All domestic electricity is single phase. Industrial can be single or three phase. Its generally electric motors that run on three phase. Single phase is 240v. Three phase is 415v
