I wanted to do one of them but I don't know which to choose.

they're both pretty shit due to their watered down western form...but in all tae kwon do focuses mainly on kicks (a bit useless in the street unless groin strike, or thigh kick)
karate is very rigid and not very flowy.
both are very good to get a fit and learn a bit of self defense i guess, but if your learning to fight....ummm not the best.
freestyle karate on the other hand....A++++++

Tae kwon do is 70 % kicks 30% punching.
Karate is 50% kicks 50% punching.

Taekwon do is more kicks and less hand defenses.
karate is more hands, strength, and technique.

Tae Kwon Do -WTF - Olympic Sparing , mostly sport -a little martial art , no self defense .
Karate - more useful in street fighting situation , harder style .

Tae Kwon Do is very good to start , you can learn a lot of techniques , mostly kicks .
Karate very good hand to hand fight , blocks etc .

I am Tae Kwon Do dude .
