what is the difference in a 36,000 dollar toyota avalon and a 72,000 dollar lexus?

i don't think there is much difference. the avalon seems like a very luxurious car in itself. it has all types of features -- very spacious interior, comfortable leather seats, big engine, very smooth ride, state of the art technology, etc etc.

so isn't avalon really same as lexus? then why do some people buy 70K+ dollar lexus?
