What is the furthest you have cycled from NYC? Thinking about getting a bike. Too

far to cycle upstate? I live in Manhattan and I am thinking about getting a mountain bike (fed up with the MTA). What I would like to know is, how far have people cycled from NYC to say upstate? Are there any decent bike routes out into the countryside? New to the city.
